My goal is to visit every small town in CT. My third town is Warren.
Warren is a town of 1,351 residents, located in Litchfield county. Named for Revolutionary War General Joseph Warren, it was incorporated in 1786, and covers 27.6 square miles.
From what I could tell, Warren is a sleepy little town that boasts a fair amount of agriculture.
Warren trivia: On July 1, 2006, businessman Joseph Cicio placed most of Warren’s commercial district on eBay for $5,000,000.
The first stop was the Warren General Store.
They have a small but impressive deli area. The sandwiches we got were very good, and the selection of prepared foods looked amazing as well. For such a small place, they really seemed to have something for everyone. Pot pies, lasagnas, parmesan, baked goods, soft drinks from Japan, CBD infused soft drinks, etc. After our sandwiches, we got some macaroons for the road.
The front of the store has a small selection of candies and gourmet pantry goods.
We finished out the day with a stop at Hopkins Vineyard, where I forgot to take pictures! I only thought to snap this one, because I was so intrigued by the wine flights. I don’t go to vineyards often, so I don’t know how new this trend is, but it’s the first time I’ve seen it. It struck me as a vast improvement over standing at the bar while someone pours you a few little dribbles of wine into the same glass over and over.
I’m a sucker for apple wine, so no surprise that the apple was my favorite.
Hopkins is actually quite a distance from my home, and yet somehow I have managed to visit here three times. The only other winery I’ve managed to get to more than once is Haight-Brown in Litchfield, and even that was only twice.
Another fine day out in CT, and another small town visited.
