Eastford, CT

Number eight in my quest to visit every town in CT is Eastford.

Located in Windham County, Eastford was established in 1847.  It has a population of 1,649, and a land area of 28.89 miles.

Eastford was creatively named for its location East of Ashford, from which it broke off.

Today I stopped for lunch at the Frog Rock Rest Area, located right on rt. 44.  I have never seen anything like it!  It seems like a place out of time, or from some other place.  A place other than Connecticut.

The food was surprisingly good.  I had a burger and fries.  My only recommendation is to stay away from the provided hand sanitizer.  I was almost through with my burger before realizing the strange smell was my hands, and not the burger.  This review would have been very different if I hadn’t figured that out.

There is a play area for the kids, and two (2) porta-potties.  I would not have been surprised to see outhouses.

Apparently they have music here quite regularly, and a duo was setting up while I was there.

Around the corner from the stage is a little antique shop.  I did not venture inside.

And here it is!  The frog rock itself.

Bonus foot.

After lunch, I went up the road to Buell’s Orchard.  I think they just opened for the season, so I got lucky!  Like Henry Fonda, I decided to pick some blueberries.

There were some very extensive orchards on the road leading up to their office.  These trees were next to the blueberry fields.  I’m honestly not sure what they are.  Maybe peaches?

And here are my blueberries!  The price was right, and the picking was fun.

So concludes another great day in Connecticut!  It has been over a year since I did one of these posts, so I really need to get my act together if I’m going to finish this project before I’m 100 years old.
